Lifespan vs. Healthspan

Lifespan is how long you live. Healthspan is how long you live in good health — active, sharp, and free of chronic disease. You can have a long lifespan with a short healthspan: decades of decline, medication, and limitation at the end. Longevity science is really about closing that gap — extending healthspan so it keeps pace with lifespan.

The gap nobody talks about

In most developed countries, people now live into their late 70s or 80s — but the last 10–15 years are often spent managing chronic disease and disability. That stretch of poor-health years at the end is the gap between lifespan and healthspan. Adding years to the END of a declining life isn't the win. Adding years of vitality in the MIDDLE — and pushing decline to the very end — is.
