Retina health, dry-eye, macular pigment
The retina is built from vitamin A (rhodopsin synthesis = night vision) and omega-3 DHA (the most concentrated lipid in the photoreceptor membrane). The macula concentrates antioxidants â lutein, zeaxanthin, vitamins C/E â against the oxidative damage of constant light exposure. Zinc is essential for the enzyme that recycles retinal pigments after each photon. Most age-related macular degeneration risk reduction in the AREDS trials came from this same nutrient stack.
