Krebs cycle + electron transport — ATP production

This is the cell's power plant: the Krebs (TCA) cycle and electron transport chain that together extract most of the ATP from the food you eat. Each step hands electrons off through carrier molecules built from B-vitamins — B1, B2, B3, and B5 are non-negotiable cofactors — while iron sits in the cytochromes that pass those electrons down the chain to oxygen. Magnesium stabilizes the ATP molecule itself, carnitine ferries fat in for fuel, and creatine buffers ATP during bursts of demand. Low cofactor status doesn't stop the engine; it just makes it run inefficiently, felt as fatigue and poor exercise tolerance.
